Appetizer: Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
- Spread: Bears -1
- Over/Under: 39
- 12:30pm on FOX
The teams with the first and fourth most all-time appearances on Thanksgiving Day are facing off again. The Bears (5–6) are favored on the road against their divisional rivals as much because of the Detroit Lions’s (3–7–1) deficiencies as their own excellent defense.
The Bears don’t have much of a road to the playoffs, but Matt Nagy is trying to prove his first season as head coach wasn’t a fluke — and Mitch Trubisky is trying to win back over his home fans.
On the other side of the ball, the Lions are all but mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Matt Stafford is still out, and their defense has struggled to keep opponents out of the end zone. They lost to the Bears a few weeks ago—getting revenge against their longtime rivals on the big day could add a little sweetness back to a bitter season.
Main Course: Buffalo Bills @ Dallas Cowboys
- Spread: Cowboys -7
- Over/Under: 45
- 4:30pm on CBS
The team with the second-most turkey day appearances is hosting again this year. The Buffalo Bills (8–3) are on their way to Dallas to face the Cowboys (6–5). Dallas is favored by a touchdown at home despite the disparity in records on the season. Both teams have fared poorly against teams with winning records, yet both are in control of their own playoff destinies.
The Cowboys dropped their Sunday matchup in New England, but the Eagles went down to the Seahawks at home, preserving the Cowboys’ edge in the NFC East. The Pats’ rainswept victory over the Cowboys kept them comfortably two games ahead of the Bills in the AFC East, but the Bills have a two-game edge for the wild card and don’t want to let anyone else sneak in behind them.
Dallas faces Philly one more time before the season is out, and the Eagles have a string of games they ought to win before then. The loser of this match will have ten days to think about how much more tenuous their grip on a playoff spot has become.
Seconds: New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons
- Spread: Saints -6.5
- Over/Under: 50
- 8:20pm on NBC
The New Orleans Saints (9–2) are heavily favored on the road against the Atlanta Falcons (3–8), who have little to show for their year apart from their victory over the Saints a few weeks ago. Saints scoring has been up-and-down throughout the season, and though the same is true for the Falcons, the Saints have managed to keep their opponents out of the end zone in most of the games when they’ve struggled offensively. That can’t be said about the Falcons.
Dan Quinn is trying to hold onto his head coaching job in Atlanta with a team that still seems hungover from their shocking collapse in the Super Bowl three seasons ago. But the Saints are coming off a hard-fought victory against another divisional rival, the Panthers, and might not be able to resist looking forward to their matchup with the number one 49ers in Week 14. The DraftKings Online Sportsbook is anticipating a high-scoring game, and indeed, the lowest mark these two have hit in their contests in recent years is the 35 combined points scored earlier this November.
